Tabs & Split View
Keep several notes open at once in Skriuw, side by side in a split view or organized as tabs across the top of the editor.
Skriuw lets you keep several notes open at once - side by side in a split view, or organized as tabs across the top of the editor.
How it works
Drag a note from the sidebar toward the edge of the editor to snap it into a split - drop near the left or right edge for a side-by-side (vertical) split, or the top or bottom edge for a stacked (horizontal) split. Drop in the middle to simply open that note in the current pane instead.
Working with tabs
- Drag a note from the sidebar onto the tab strip to open it as a new tab
- Drag a note directly onto an existing tab to replace what that tab shows
- Drag tabs left and right to reorder them
- Pin a tab to keep it from being closed accidentally
- Right-click a tab to close it, close all others, or close everything to one side
- Switch tabs instantly with keyboard shortcuts (Cmd/Ctrl + 1 through 9)
Split view
- Open any note "beside" your current one to compare or reference two notes at once
- Toggle between a vertical and horizontal split, or swap which note sits on which side
- Each pane keeps its own scroll position and its own set of tabs
- Close the split to return to a single, full-width note
Tips
- Turn on the "always show tabs" preference in settings if you'd rather have the tab strip visible from the start, instead of it appearing once you open a second note
- Use the keyboard shortcuts to jump between split panes without touching the mouse
Why use tabs and split view?
Some work needs two notes in view at the same time - a reference doc next to the note you're writing, or a plan next to its checklist. Tabs keep a working set of notes ready to switch between, and split view lets you see two of them at once, so you spend less time hunting through the sidebar and more time writing.
